Welcome! I'm so glad you've found Creature Commons Counseling, PLLC.  My name is Lish Montesa and I specialize in working with teens and young adults.  Though based north of Houston, I offer convenient, virtual, individual therapy sessions online.  Life can be tough, and I feel fortunate to support clients in navigating the many changes and adjustments occurring at this stage of life.  I tend to lean into trauma-focused CBT, DBT, Relational-Cultural, and Family Systems counseling most often.  However, depending on your interests, I like to incorporate animal, art, music, or writing exercises into sessions as well...this is called experiential therapy.  It is the opposite of traditional talk therapy.  You will find I strive to assist clients in feeling comfortable and at ease in sessions.  I'm genuine and relatable in my counseling approach.  Above all, I'm on your side and an ally in your journey. 

 

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate and LCDC-I supervised by Monica McClain, (LPC-S) and a graduate of Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School.  I earned a Masters degree in Counseling, focused on dual diagnosis and addiction studies.  Among many other dilemmas, I'm passionate about assisting those battling substance use and addiction challenges.  I have had experiences working at a Betty Ford outpatient center, a private practice, a community health agency and shelter.  Previously, I earned a Masters degree in Human Resources and spent a number of years in career counseling roles at several universities. 

 

Animals have also always been a huge part of my life and I hope to share the positive impact of the human-animal bond with you in 2025.  I am currently in training with Natural Lifemanship, working towards obtaining my trauma-focused equine-assisted therapy certification.  Sessions incorporating horses will be offered later next year.  Ask to be added to the waitlist!  Meanwhile, my rabbit, Maddy and I, are a volunteer therapy team with Pet Partners.
